Pat Contri has emerged from being an obscure game reviewer to being a *relatively* obscure game reviewer. It could be his knowledge/love of Nintendo, it could be his quirky/bizarre sense of humor, or it could just be the hair. He has appeared on Spike TV and in your NES fever dreams.

I think Final Fantasy XIII has taken the most hated FInal Fantasy title now.

Oh no it’s a final fantasy game that isn’t like a final fantasy game. stfu, you’re playing a game that was made to bring in new gamers to the RPG genre in the 90′s. of course its not gonna be as complicated as FF2. most of the games at that time just have you punching and kicking dudes and you only have to worry about you’re health (if even that). if some one who never played an rpg before liked it and then you tell them that there are way better games that would just blow there freaken mind, and thats why the game was made and not because squaresoft thought we were idiots, like some ppl like to believe. if they thought we were idiots they would have never released FF3/J6, which is a freaken masterpiece.

I do not like the game, but I think you shouldn’t rant about the plot or the overscaling of interiors, because many RPGs did those things at the time.

Actually, Mystic Quest was FF-themed hack of another, child-targeted JRPG game. Kinda like Doki Doki Panic->SMB2. Don’t remember exact title of game Mystic Quest was based on, though but I’ve read about it on Retroware some time ago.

I was quite happy with it at the time. We didn’t have much JRPGs to choose from back then.
Yeah they thought we were too dumb. Nintendo thought it in the preceding gen. SMB2 didn’t release stateside. We got a modified Doki Doki Panic.
Now that I think about it JRPGs were super rare in gamestores and rental places. There were mainly beat em ups, side scrollers and fighting games. Earthbound flopped hardcore upon release. it’s the one franchise Nintendo has been most hounded about by fans over the years,

Sorry Jared. No win on this one. The game rocks, whether it’s REALLY a “Final Fantasy” game or not, it’s fun, it’s charming, and it’s a HELL of a lot better than pretty much anything Square has put out in years. Final Verdict? Yagotitwrongbro.

I wonder if you thinking of Mystic Quest the European Gameboy game. It was originally Seiken Densetsu (FF: Adventure in the US). It was called a side story to final fantasy being that it had moogles and chocobos and the first game in the Mana Series. When the real mystic quest came out in Europe they call it Mystic Quest Legend and treated like a sequel to the gameboy game. Mystic Quest was made for the US as a beginners RPG. It was not base on another game.
