It has been announced that the ’90s cartoon series based on Nintendo and Rare’s popular Donkey Kong Country video games is coming to DVD. The complete first season is scheduled for release on May 12 by Phase 4 Films.

Originally airing in 1996 in France and in 1997 in the US, Donkey Kong Country lasted for a total of 40 episodes across two seasons. It followed the adventures of Donkey Kong and his buddies on Kongo Bongo Island as they tried to protect the magical Crystal Coconut from being stolen by King K. Rool and his minions. The show featured motion-captured CGI animation, as well as musical sequences.
