Of all the rabbits Sony pulled out of its hat during their E3 press conference, one that fans had perhaps been waiting for the longest was a remake of the RPG classic Final Fantasy VII. After many years of teasing, it was finally confirmed that a remake is in the works for PlayStation 4.
Final Fantasy VII was released in 1997 for the original PlayStation, and is widely credited for bringing Japanese role-playing games to a mainstream audience. While the series has, of course, continued on, fans have continually requested a return of their favorite installment.
According to the reveal trailer, the game is being directed by Tetsuya Nomura and produced by Yoshinori Kitase. The end of the trailer states “Play it first on PlayStation 4,” suggesting that the game could eventually appear on more platforms.
