The first gameplay trailer for the upcoming game Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (formerly known as Monster Boy and the Wizard of Booze) and been released.
Developed by Game Atelier and published by FDG Enteratinment, Monster Boy is the official fifth installment of the cult-classic Wonder Boy/Monster World series developed by Westone Bit Entertainment, and it marks the return of the series after a two-decade hiatus. The previous game, Monster World IV, was released on the Sega Mega Drive in Japan way back in 1994. It was officially localized and released internationally on Wii Virtual Console, XBLA and PSN in 2012.
While Sega still owns the trademarks for the names “Wonder Boy” and “Monster World,” rights to the actual game were still in the possession of Westone, and original series creator Ryuichi Nishizawa is overseeing the project in an advisory role. Unfortunately, Westone went bankrupt in 2014, but it does not seem to have impacted the project.
Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is currently scheduled for release in early 2016 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
