While people have begun speculation that Retro Studio’s next project will be a new Metroid Prime (see here for more on that), the Official Nintendo Magazine recently had another idea: Maybe they could instead be focusing on a new Star Fox? From the issue:
“While some suggest this new project is likely to be a return to the Metroid franchise, we’d love to see another Nintendo hero get the retro stamp of excellence. After all, having rolled out the barrels for Donkey Kong, perhaps it’s time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind.”
Of course this is just a wish on their part and in no way proof of anything. But, they are the official magazine, so…maybe, just maybe, they know something?…Hm. What would you like to see? Another Prime, or rather a new Star Fox?
Here’s another rumor: According to UK gaming publication PLAY, both Syphon Filter 4 and God of War IV are deep in development and set to be announced in February. As of now this is of course only a rumor, but according to PLAY, their spies are “not often wrong.” We’ll see whether they speak true or if they’re just double agents in a few days.
With Nintendo’s losses on a constant rise, Business Week talked to Satoru Iwata to see what their plans were for the next year. Apart from offering DLC for 3DS games, Iwata also said that the Wii U will be ready for release in time for Christmas. Since there were some rumors that many developers weren’t exactly happy with the Wii U’s hardware capabilities, I think it’s better to push the Wii U back until all issues and concerns have been addressed.
Also, some sources are claiming that Nintendo is looking to change the name of the Wii U, in order to not confuse customers. Apparently many thought that the 3DS was just an upgraded DS and not a new console in and of itself, so they don’t want to make the same mistake with the Wii successor. Yes Nintendo, please do that. Wii U just sounds incredibly stupid.
Someone at Capcom got fired this week. How do I know? Well…just look at this box art of Resident Evil Revelations.
During Nintendo’s last investor meeting, Satoru Iwata offered up an exciting piece of information: A new Mario title is set for release on the 3DS in their next fiscal year (April 2012 – March 2013.) But the real news is that it’ll be 2D. Woohoo! Nothing is known about the game, but that’s enough for me to get excited.
If you’re a fan of old-school games, get ready to piss your pants: The Neo Geo is making a comeback in portable form. Now this isn’t another stand-alone handheld like the Neo Geo Pocket Color, but a real Neo Geo pre-loaded with 20 classic games. It sports a 4.3 inch screen, 2 GB of storage, a 2200 mAh battery, and is just slightly larger than the average iPhone. It’ll also come with an SD-slot, so maybe we’ll be able to get more games on it than just the pre-loaded ones? Speaking of which:
- 1.WORLD HEROES
- 2.ULTIMETE 11
- 3.TOP PLAYER’S GOLF
